Residential Curriculum

What is a residential curriculum?

We at The College of New Jersey know there’s a strong correlation between campus engagement and academic success.  Students who are involved in activities and events are more likely to: form meaningful relationships with faculty and staff; appreciate academic concepts within meaningful social contexts; develop skills associated with both academic and social maturity; learn about social responsibility and what it means to live with others; be prepared for post-college careers; become engaged and thoughtful citizens; form lasting bonds with friends and fellow students; and most importantly, have a fun, meaningful and memorable college experiences.

Residential Education and Housing achieves these bold goals through a residential curriculum that focuses on:

Curriculum in Action

Lion to Lion Conversations

Each semester, our Community Advisors will schedule a Lion to Lion onversation with every one of their residents. Guided by questions designed by our professional staff, these conversations assist residents to reflect on their residential experience, as well as provide us with the opportunity to highlight campus resources that may be useful.

Explore TCNJ

As a busy community, TCNJ always has events and opportunities occurring all over campus.  It is hard for residents to know all that is going on.  Explore TCNJ is our way of helping highlight some of the amazing events that college departments and registered student organizations are hosting throughout campus.  Every CA selects an event being promoted on campus and will coordinate a group to of residents to go together.  It’s a great way to literally Explore TCNJ!

Community Events

Community events are planned by our student staff and are opportunities for students to interact with each other at events in the residence hall.  Every semester student staff members will plan two events for their community.  One will be focused on one or more of the Learning Outcomes described above.  The other will be purely an opportunity for residents to get together to socialize and build community.

Newsletters

Every residence hall publishes a newletter to their residents that provides useful updates and tips for living in that community.  It is also an opportunity to higlight the amazing work of our student staff and the achievements of residents in the area.
